Revel In It

Revel In It

7/26/19 – Another gorgeous cocktail from LA bar consultant Josh Goldman. Josh teamed up with Julian Cox back in 2012 to create Soigné, a boutique management and consulting group. Since then, he has consulted all over Los Angeles, creating unique concept-driven cocktail lists for bars such as Sotto, Acabar and Belcampo Meat Co.

Josh came on to create a series of Revel cocktails for a recent event, and this one was an absolute winner. The subtle herbal notes of the Revel Blanco are complimented by the same botanicals in the Yellow Chartreuse. The dry of the curaçao and hint of salt from the saline solution balance this drink out perfectly.

5/5/19 – We wanted to think a little outside the box this Cinco De Mayo, so rather than just come up with a riff on a standard margarita, we decided to play around with some spring-time flavors here. We whipped up some homemade pistachio orgeat and got a hold of this beautiful apricot liqueur by Orchard… it’s not overly sweet and really packs the full aromatic of the fruit. We also had some Woodford Reserve cherry bitters at the Revel office which added a touch of dryness, balancing the sweet of the syrup and the tart of the lemon. A fun, easy-drinking cocktail for a beautiful Spring day! Happy Cinco!

3/14/19 – Revel Spirit’s Wrennie West created this gorgeous riff on the classic Ramos Gin Fizz. Yes, any Ramos Fizz variation is a labor-intensive cocktail to make, but it’s a bartender favorite and looks and tastes great. Trust us, it’s worth your time. The raspberry and rum combo give this drink a unique tiki twist too, not to mention a beautiful pink color. It literally tastes like a raspberry milkshake.

3/4/19 – If you still haven’t had the pleasure of perusing the Instagram profile “Spirit and Spoon”, do yourself a favour and check it out. LA bar veteran Karl Steuck’s labour of love is one part stunning cocktail photography and one part unique, creative and well thought out recipes that are easy to make at home. Formerly of Downtown LA’s locally distilled vodka Loft and Bear, Karl transitioned into creating his own, all-encompassing brand, Spirit and Spoon – a cocktail photography, consulting, brand work and events company. A good friend and collaborator with Revel Spirits, Karl whipped up this delicious marg riff for National Margarita Day.
Of the recipe, Karl says: “[I] had no lime or lemon but did have apple cider vinegar. Decided to go completely off the cuff and make a spin on a skinny girl marg as had pressed celery juice (don’t judge). Infused green chartreuse with the Thai basil, growing in my kitchen, to give the celery a broader vegetal note. Added Serrano to tie it together and then egg white to give it the texture it needed ~ also seemed fitting with the theme.”

Classic Revel Margarita

Classic Revel Margarita

2/22/19 – We know, everyone knows how to make a classic margarita. BUT… it’s National Margarita Day, so we thought, why not impart a few golden rules on how to make the most delicious marg possible?
Firstly – always, always use fresh lime juice. No, not even the bottles that declare they are “100% fresh lime juice” will do. Grab a cheap kitchen lime press and get to work! (fun fact – one lime usually yields about 1oz of lime juice).

Triple Sec is fine as long as it is a quality brand. (We recommend a dryer orange liqueur like Ferrand’s Orange Curacao). If you do go down the liqueur route, we suggest toning down the agave to a half ounce as to not over sweeten the drink. Personally, we like to substitute any orange liquor for a few drops of orange bitters.

And lastly (and perhaps most obviously), always use a quality 100% agave spirit.

Ok, rant over. Click on for our recipe and Happy National Margarita Day!

2/14/19 – What could be more fitting on Valentine’s Day than this delicious twist on a classic Margarita? Revel’s own Zachariah Parks came up with this recipe which we showcased at last year’s San Diego Spirits Festival. Zach’s chipotle and hibiscus syrup is the perfect combo of sweet and spicy and results in this beautiful dark red color – sure to impress that special someone!

Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon

11/30/18 – We recently got our hands on some St George Spiced Pear Liqueur and it’s absolutely stunning. You get a hint of every flavor in it – ripe Barlett pear, cinnamon and clove. It makes the perfect fall cocktail, and although we are admittedly a little late to the Fall party, this libation can be enjoyed any time of year.

We added a bit of spice here with some habanero chili pepper-infused maple syrup: roughly chop the peppers and warm on the stove with maple syrup to infuse. (“Hot” tip- for those in the US, Trader Joe’s make a ghost pepper-infused maple syrup that works really well, but it’s on the spicier side, so mix with regular syrup as needed).
This drink will warm the soul through those cold Fall months!
